Say Goodbye to Dull Winter Skin

The Winter has wreaked havoc on my skin.  It feels dry no matter how much moisturizer I apply (yes, I know I need to drink more water) and it just feels dull.  So I went on a mission to track down some products that will help give my skin that well rested, youthful, dewy glow.  And since I have been hoarding my Shoppers Optimum Points, I decided I would start at BeautyBoutique.ca where I knew I could redeem my points.

What I love about shopping at BeautyBoutique.ca is that I can take my time researching products instead of feeling pressured in store to buy what the sales associate has recommended.  And if I am unsure on something I can always go into a Shoppers Drugmart to sample out the product before I buy online.

Here are a few of the items I bought that I love.

Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Illuminating Beauty Balm

I was a a bit apprehensive about this before I tried it because I didnt want my skin to look shiny everywhere but once I tried it I was hooked.  I dont typically  wear foundation, but I wanted something to give me a little colour and to help illuminate.  And this did not disappoint.  And its really creamy so I feel like it helps keep me moisturized too.   I just wear some bronzing powder and blush over this and I am good to go.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil

This is not a typical primer.  As expected it helps with a smoother makeup application but what I really love about this is that its an oil formula which really helps to make my skin look more hydrated.   It helps give me that dewy summer look and if later in the day my skin is feeling a little dehydrated, I just dab a little bit of this over my makeup.

You do have to be careful not to apply to much or it can get a little too oily.  I use it after moisturizer and before makeup.  I will likely reserve this primer for the Winter months as my skin tends to have more natural oil  and this in the Summer and it might make me a little too dewy  (aka shiny and greasy).

Clarins Perfectly Smooth

I used to use the Smashbox Iconic Photofinish Primer, which I still really like but I LOVE this Clarins primer.   It is great at filling in lines and It has a blurring effect even without foundation on top.  I usually put it around my eyes, on my forehead and on my chin.  Sometimes I use this alongside the Smashbox Oil primer.  I apply this one first and then add the Oil Primer to my cheeks and forehead area.

Smashbox Under Eye Primer

This is such a great brightener.  I use this before I apply my concealer but if I am in a rush I will wear this alone. There isnt really any colour or coverage to this, it just sort of illuminates.

Clinique Chubby Gift Set

This set came with mascara, eye liner, a highlighter stick and lip stick.  I really only bought this set to try out the highlighter and lipstick and they did not disappoint.  The highlighter is amazing.  I love that you do not need a brush to apply so its great for your purse.  I just dab a bit along my checkbones, browbones, along my hair line and above my top lip.  LOVE.

The lipstick is also great. I dont ever wear traditional lipsticks because I hate the way they feel.  This is such a light moisturizing formula.

I havent tried the mascara or eye liner yet, so I dont have anything to say on that front,
